Pacific Grove Golf Links is a municipally owned course, which means the City of Pacific Grove operates it and green fees stay far below what you'd pay at the private resorts a few miles away. That accessibility is the course's defining characteristic: the same peninsula views, the same coastal wind, the same wildlife — but priced for a daily-fee round rather than a resort experience.

The front nine plays through a residential area and is pleasant but unremarkable. The back nine is the reason to come. Holes 10 through 18 run directly along the coastline, with Monterey Bay on your right and the Del Monte Forest pines behind you. The sea otters, harbor seals, and shorebirds along the rocks are an unavoidable part of the round.

At 5,727 yards from the tips and par 70, Pacific Grove is not a long or difficult course by modern championship standards. The challenge comes from the wind, which picks up on the back nine and can make club selection genuinely difficult. What plays as a 7-iron in still air might need a 4-iron into a stiff headwind off the bay.
